Kenya's Martin Mathathi won the Fukuoka International Marathon on Sunday.

The Japan-based Mathathi, who runs for the Suzuki Hamamatsu Athletics Club, finished in 2 hours, 7 minutes, 16 seconds, ahead of countryman and defending champion Joseph Gitau.

Gitau took the tape in 2:09:00. Yuki Kawauchi, who missed his drink late in the race, was third as the highest Japanese finisher in 2:09:05.
