Free agent right-hander Kan Otake said Monday he will join the Yomiuri Giants from the Hiroshima Carp next season.

Before announcing his decision, the 30-year-old Otake turned down offers in the morning from the Softbank Hawks and Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, two teams he also had been in negotiations with.

Later at Mazda Stadium, Otake told Carp owner Hajime Matsuda of his decision to play for the Giants. Matsuda had been willing to offer Otake a deal, even though he had declared free agency.

"I have wanted to play baseball in the Kanto area where I'm from," Otake said.

Otake joined Hiroshima as a first-round draft pick in 2002. Mainly a starter in 11 seasons with the Carp, he went 10-10 with a 3.37 ERA this year, his second consecutive season with double-digit wins.

Otake has a career 74-78 record with 17 saves and a 3.75 ERA.
