The New York Mets said Monday they are talking with Daisuke Matsuzaka about bringing him back for next season.

The 33-year-old free agent joined the Mets in August, going 3-3 with a 4.42 ERA in seven starts.

"He did a nice job for us at the end of last season, so I would expect we'll talk to him at some point," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said to ESPN.com.

Assistant GM John Ricco told Kyodo News that while no formal offer has been made, Matsuzaka has been receptive to returning to Citi Field for another season.
