China's Wu Ashun overcame a rough finish on a windy day to earn his second victory on Japan's JGTO tour Sunday with his triumph in the Heiwa PGM Championship.
Wu's tee shot on No. 17 sailed to the left and led to a double bogey, erasing his two-stroke lead over South Korea's Kim Hyung-sung. But Kim bogeyed the par-4 18th to finish at 10-under-par 274 at Miho Golf Club in Ibaraki Prefecture, and Wu, who won his first JGTO victory in a playoff, sank a 4-foot par putt to finish at 11 under and avoid another playoff.
"I feel very good," the 28-year-old Wu said in English before the awards ceremony. "The wind is very big and everyone had to play very tough golf."
"(On 17) the wind was very big from the right side and I hit it into the rough. I hit a double bogey, but nobody's perfect."
Wu started the day with a four-stroke lead and needed it after carding two birdies, four bogeys and the double bogey for a final-round 4-over-par 75. Last year, he became China's first champion on the JGTO Tour at the Toshin Golf Tournament, where the decisive holes were played in near darkness. Wu's second win brought a ¥40 million payday.
Kazuhiro Yamashita, Han Lee of the United States and Lee Kyoung-hoon of South Korea tied for third three strokes back of Kim. Komei Oda, who started the day tied with Kim for second dropped six strokes over the final five holes with a triple bogey, a double bogey and a bogey to finish in a tie for sixth with Australian Brad Kennedy.
