Daisuke Maruyama carded seven birdies and four bogies in Sunday's final round of the Bridgestone Open to win by three strokes and earn his first title in four years.

The 42-year-old, who has three career titles, last won in September 2009 at the Asia Pacific Open. Maruyama entered the day in a three-way tie for the lead with 45-year-old Toru Taniguchi, the defending champ, and South Korea's Park Eun-shin.

Maruyama finished with a total of 10-under-par 203 after Saturday's play at the par-71 Sodegaura Country Club had been rained out and the tournament shortened to 54 holes.

"I had thought that I wouldn't win again," Maruyama said. "So to earn my first win in four years here in Chiba, where I'm from, makes me really happy."

"I was able to keep up with Taniguchi over the front nine, and things began going my way after the turn."

Maruyama earned ¥22.5 million after the prize money was reduced 25 percent due to only three rounds being played.
