Two-time world figure skating champion Kim Yu-na of South Korea will sit out upcoming Grand Prix events because of a foot injury, Yonhap News Agency reported Thursday.

The Korea Skating Union said Kim suffered an injury to her metatarsal on her right foot during training and could be sidelined for up to six weeks, Yonhap reported.

"If she continues to train hard, her injury could worsen," a KSU official was quoted by Yonhap as saying. "She has to slow down and must receive further treatment. She may need further rehab after her treatment."

Kim, the reigning Olympic champion, had been scheduled to compete at the second event of the GP series at Skate Canada in October and the fifth event, Trophee Eric Bompard, in Paris in November.
