Arsenal's Japan midfielder Ryo Miyaichi will be sidelined for two weeks with a broken rib that he hid from the club, manager Arsene Wenger said on Sunday.

Wenger said the 20-year-old Miyaichi suffered the injury during Arsenal's 3-1 victory at Nagoya Grampus on July 22 before his hometown fans, but only told the team recently.

The embattled winger also appeared in the Gunners' 2-1 win over Urawa Reds on July 26.

"He has a crack in the rib that he got in Japan in the first game," Wenger said. "He hid it from us because he was desperate to play in Japan.

"At the moment he is injured for two weeks."

The Nagoya friendly was only Miyaichi's second game back from ankle surgery he had in March. Arsenal opens the new Premier League season at home against Aston Villa on Aug. 17.
