The Japan women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 in World Grand Prix Pool C on Saturday with a straight-sets victory over Algeria.

Establishing a rhythm with a strong service game, Japan, which won the bronze medal in last summer's London Olympics, defeated Algeria 25-10, 25-8, 25-8.

On Friday, Japan opened its Grand Prix campaign against Thailand, winning 25-19, 25-17, 25-21 in 1 hour, 12 minutes.

Japan will play pool host Turkey on Sunday. The Turks also opened with a victory on Saturday, defeating Algeria 25-13, 25-18, 25-15.

A total of 20 teams, each playing nine games, are competing in the tournament. The finals will be in Sapporo from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1, when the top five teams from preliminary action and host Japan will compete.
