Megumi Tachimoto won the women's over-78 kilogram gold medal on the final day of the Paris Grand Slam on Sunday.

In the final, Tachimoto defeated Cuba's London Olympic champion Idalys Ortiz, who was disqualified for her fourth penalty. The gold was the third for Japan's women's team, which competed in the wake of an abuse scandal that has rocked sports in the country.

In the women's 78-kg class, Japan's Akari Ogata finished second after losing the final by yuko to France's Lucie Louette. Ruika Sato joined Ogata on the podium with a bronze medal.

The Japanese men, who were shut out of gold medals for the first time at the Olympics last summer, managed to win just one title in Paris. On Sunday, the men collected bronze medals from Keita Nagashima (81 kg), Hirotaka Kato (90 kg) and Ryu Shichinohe (over-100 kg).
