Logotype, ridden by Mirco Demuro, showed up favorite Codino on Sunday to win the Asahi Futurity Stakes, the championship for 2-year-old colts.
Logotype, the No. 7 pick, broke to the front in a tight pack after the final turn and held off jockey Norihiro Yokoyama's Codino by a neck to cross in 1 minute, 33.4 seconds on the 1,600-meter turf course at Nakayama Racecourse. Gottfried, the race's third favorite, was 2½ lengths back in third.
"It was a strange race," said Demuro, whose horse's victory was worth ¥70 million in prize money. "I was very lucky to be in the position I was in. I broke better than Codino. My horse is very nice; I believed in him, and his condition was very good today. I think he likes this distance."
