Yutaka Take-ridden Trailblazer placed fourth Saturday as Little Mike stunned some of the world’s top grass horses to win the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf in California.
Trailblazer made a move on the home bend to pull alongside Little Mike, but the five-year-old Japanese raider could not go with the winner and was passed late on by Point Of Entry and St Nicholas Abbey.
Little Mike beat Point of Entry by half a length.
“The horse made a big effort,” Take said of Trailblazer, who missed out on a first Grade One title.
“We really wanted to win but I guess our opponents were stronger. We gave it our best shot.”
