Olympic gold medalist Kim Yu-na will make her return to competition at the NRW Trophy in Dortmund, Germany, her management agency All That Sports announced Friday.
The 22-year-old Kim, who has not skated competitively since taking the silver medal behind Miki Ando at the 2011 world championships in Moscow, will enter the senior "B" event held from Dec. 5-9.
Kim, who is not taking part in the Grand Prix Series this season while getting back into shape and working on her new programs, was looking to choose a low-key place for her return. She has achieved that as the focus the same week will be on Sochi, Russia, site of the 2014 Olympics, where the Grand Prix Final will be taking place.
Kim announced earlier this week that she would be joining forces again with Shin Hye Sook and Ryu Jong Hyun, who coached her while she was in elementary school in Seoul.
The 2009 world champion most recently worked with American Peter Oppegard. She was coached by Canadian Brian Orser when she won the gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
Kim is continuing to collaborate with noted Canadian choreographer Tracy Wilson and has previously announced the music for her short program this season will be "Kiss of the Vampire" and "Les Miserables" in her free skate.
"I think I'm about 70 percent ready in terms of physical fitness," the Chosun Ilbo reported Kim said at a news conference on Wednesday in Seoul. "I don't have any problem with my jumping skills and other techniques, but I'm worried that I'll feel nervous about competing as I haven't done it for quite a long time. I'll do my best to be well-prepared."
