KOMAKI, AICHI PREF. – The Japan women’s volleyball team overpowered the Dominican Republic in straight sets Friday to level their mark at 2-2 in preliminary round action at the World Grand Prix.
Coming off their first win of the competition against Asian rival South Korea in Busan last Sunday, the Japanese delighted home fans with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 win in Pool F at Park Arena Komaki. The Dominicans dropped to 1-3.
Mizuho Ishida led Japan with 12 points and Megumi Kurihara chipped in with 11. Sidarka de los Milagros Nunez had a match-high 13 points for the Dominicans.
Earlier, Thailand improved to 3-1 with a four-sets win over Puerto Rico (1-3), prevailing 25-18, 19-25, 25-11, 25-19.
