AUGUSTA, GEORGIA – Asian amateur champion Hideki Matsuyama kept alive his hopes of qualifying for a return to Augusta with an even-par 72 in the third round of the Masters Tournament on Saturday.
The 20-year-old from Japan moved up four spots into a tie for 27th at 1 over. The top 16 and ties will receive automatic invitations to next year’s Masters.
Peter Hanson of Sweden shot the day’s low round of 65 to get to 9 under and take a one-stroke lead over three-time champion Phil Mickelson.
Hanson birdied five of the last seven holes, while Mickelson picked up six shots on the back nine, including an eagle at the par-5 13th, on his way to a bogey-free 66.
South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open winner, was alone in third at 7 under after a 69.
