FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA – Two-time double Olympic breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima won his first race of 2012 in taking the 200 meters at a time-trials meet in Fullerton, California, on Sunday.
Kitajima topped the heats before clocking a mediocre time of 1 minute, 58.80 seconds in the 25-yard short-course pool.
“I didn’t look at it as a race. It gave me a lift,” said the 29-year-old.
“This is a special year and I will be more determined than anyone at the Olympics,” he said.
