Japan’s Beijing Olympic coach Yasuharu Sorimachi has been appointed manager of newly promoted J. League second-division team Matsumoto Yamaga, the club announced on Friday.
Nagano-based Yamaga had been searching for a coach to replace Yoshiyuki Kato, who guided the team to promotion from the semi-professional Japan Football League but does not have the required coaching credentials to manage a J. League team.
The 47-year-old Sorimachi has promoted both Albirex Niigata and Shonan Bellmare to the J. League top flight during his career. He left Shonan after the team finished 14th in J2 last season.
