Defender Maya Yoshida tasted defeat on his debut for VVV Venlo on Saturday as Keisuke Honda’s former club crashed to a 5-3 defeat at home to FC Groningen in the Dutch first division.
Playing in his first competitive match since his move from Nagoya Grampus, Yoshida had a hand in Venlo’s third goal after coming on with quarter of an hour left, but the game by that time was already out of reach after Koen Van de Laak’s 75th-minute strike had put Groningen ahead 5-2.
