OSAKA (Kyodo) Defending champion Samantha Stosur routed Japanese wild card Sachie Ishizu 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of the Japan Women’s Open on Monday.

The 18-year-old Ishizu, who turned pro earlier this month, had her serve broken four times without creating a single break point against the top-seeded Australian at Utsubo Tennis Center.

Japanese compatriot Kurumi Nara fell to fourth-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-1, 6-0.

In other matches on the opening day of the $220,000 WTA event, second seed Marion Bartoli defeated Julie Coin 6-2, 6-1 in an all-French contest.

Coco Vandeweghe of the United States beat Russian Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-2.
