CHIBA – Jeon Mi Jeong shot a 6-under 66 to share the lead with Kaori Aoyama after the first round of the Nichirei Ladies on Friday.
South Korean Jeon, who won her 14th career Japan LPGA title at the Yonex Ladies three weeks ago, made eight birdies while four-putting for a double bogey on the fourth hole at Sodegaura Country Club.
Aoyama had seven birdies, including three straight from the sixth hole, and a bogey.
Lee Ji Woo of South Korea had five consecutive birdies from No. 14 to open with a 67 and shared third with Hiromi Takesue and Ye Liying of China.
Defending champion Sakura Yokomine carded a 70 to tie for 11th in her return from a sprained right ankle.
Sunday’s winner will take ¥14.4 million from the ¥80 million purse.
