TOKOROZAWA, Saitama Pref. – Kazuyuki Hoashi pitched his second shutout of the season and Yoshihito Ishii went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Saitama Seibu defeated the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks 6-0 on Friday.
Hoashi (8-5) scattered four hits, all singles, struck out eight and walked none. Ishii broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in a five-run fourth inning at Seibu Dome.
Takahiko G.G. Sato and Tatsuyuki Uemoto had run-scoring singles in the inning. Justin Germano (5-4) lasted only 3 2/3 innings.
Eagles 9, Marines 5
At Sendai’s Kleenex Stadium, Takeshi Yamasaki and Todd Linden homered and drove in five runs between them as Tohoku Rakuten beat Chiba Lotte.
Yamasaki’s solo homer and Linden’s two-run blast, both off Naoyuki Shimizu (5-7), put the Eagles up 5-2 in the third inning. Yamasaki added an RBI single in the fourth and Linden a run-scoring double in the sixth.
Masahiro Tanaka (14-5) allowed four runs and struck out 10 over seven innings.
Fighters 7, Buffaloes 6 (11)
At Osaka’s Kyocera Dome, Terrmel Sledge hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the top of the 11th as Hokkaido Nippon Ham outlasted Orix.
Sledge sent the 0-1 pitch from Chihiro Kaneko (11-8) over the left-field wall.
Hisashi Takeda (2-0) got the win with two scoreless innings. Atsunori Inaba hit a three-run home run in the seventh.
Giants 10, Swallows 2
At Tokyo’s Jingu Stadium, Tetsuya Utsumi threw seven solid innings and Yoshitomo Tani and Shinnosuke Abe contributed with three RBIs apiece as Yomiuri trounced Tokyo Yakult.
Utsumi (8-10) allowed two runs and six hits, while striking out six and walking three. Kyohei Muranaka (0-5) took the loss.
Michihiro Ogasawara broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single with two outs in the fifth inning. Tani added an RBI double in the sixth and a two-run single in a five-run seventh that was capped by Abe’s three-run homer over the center-field wall.
Carp 5, Tigers 4
At Koshien Stadium, Soichiro Amaya and Tetsuya Kokubo combined for four RBIs as Hiroshima edged Hanshin.
Amaya hit a two-run triple off Atsushi Nomi (10-9) to break a 2-2 tie with two outs before Kokubo followed with a run-scoring single in a four-run third inning.
BayStars 5, Dragons 2
At Nagoya Dome, Noriharu Yamazaki had a tiebreaking single in the third and Yokohama added three insurance runs in the next frame en route to beating Chunichi.
