BALTIMORE (Kyodo) The Boston Red Sox said Friday they have transferred right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Matsuzaka, currently on a rehab assignment in Florida to strengthen a weakened pitching shoulder, now will not be eligible to pitch again until Aug. 18.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona, however, said the move will not affect his scheduled return to the major league mound.

Matsuzaka is scheduled to have talks with the Red Sox coaching staff about his progress when the team comes to Florida for a two-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays from Tuesday.

Matsuzaka is 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA in eight starts this season after repeating as MVP in the World Baseball Classic in March.
