SAITAMA (Kyodo) Brazilian striker Edmilson struck twice as Urawa Reds thrashed 10-man Omiya Ardija 6-2 in the Saitama derby on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Nabisco Cup.

Urawa went through with Yokohama F. Marinos from Group A and will meet Shimizu S-Pulse over two legs in the quarterfinals. S-Pulse progressed from Group B in second place behind FC Tokyo.

In the other Group A games, free-scoring Sanfreece Hiroshima missed out on a place in the next round after going down 2-1 at Jubilo Iwata, Ryoichi Maeda bagging both goals for Jubilo, while last year's Nabisco Cup winners Oita Trinita recorded their first win in 17 league and cup matches after Edmilson's 74th-minute effort settled a 2-1 triumph at Albirex Niigata.

Goals from Cabore, Naohiro Ishikawa and Shingo Akamine gave FC Tokyo a 3-1 win over S-Pulse, who had already secured their place in the last eight in the previous round of matches.
