Kei Nishikori, who will return from injury to the ATP Tour at the season-opening French Open beginning Sunday, has been awarded a wild card into next month’s AEGON Championships, it was learned Monday.

Nishikori, recently sidelined with a right elbow injury, is set to take part in the June 8-14 event at London’s Queen’s Club ahead of the qualifiers for Wimbledon.

The 19-year-old is also scheduled to play in the Indianapolis Tennis Championships in July.

Nishikori is currently ranked No. 117 in the world but he has been as high as No. 56 after winning his first ATP World Tour title last year in Delray Beach, Fla.

After several other impressive results in 2008, including a run to the last 16 at Queen’s Club, he was voted the ATP Newcomer of the Year, becoming the first Asian player to win the award.
