The HP Open, a new WTA event, will be held in Osaka on Oct. 12-18, the Japan Tennis Association said Wednesday.

The $220,000 tournament at Utsubo Tennis Center, sponsored by the Japanese unit of Hewlett-Packard Co., replaces the Japan Open, which was dropped from the top-tier women’s tour calendar.
