OBERHOF, Germany (Kyodo) Top Alpine skier Akira Sasaki said Tuesday he plans to join the World Cup circuit in ski cross, a freestyle event similar to snowboard cross that will be introduced at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

“Now that I’ve decided to enter ski cross, I’ll try to win a medal at the Olympics. I know I’ll regret it if I miss this chance,” said Sasaki, who has already registered to compete in both Alpine and freestyle skiing.

Sasaki is expected to make his ski cross debut in a World Cup meet in Norway on Feb. 19 and to enter an event in March.

He also plans to participate in a ski cross meet in New Zealand next summer.
