SYDNEY (Kyodo) Former world No. 4 Kimiko Date-Krumm has received a wild-card entry into the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand from Jan. 5-10, organizers of the WTA Tour event said Tuesday.

It will be her first WTA tournament appearance overseas since November 1996, when she lost to then-rising star Martina Hingis 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Chase Championships in New York.

The 38-year-old, who surprised the tennis world by coming out of retirement earlier this year, is scheduled to play in the Australian Open qualifying tournament in mid-January after the ASB Classic.

In her first singles match on the WTA Tour in 12 years, Date-Krumm lost to sixth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the Japan Open in September.
