The Japan Sumo Association formally decided on Monday to cancel a sumo exhibition tour to London originally scheduled for next autumn due to the severe economic conditions.

Directors of the association decided at a regular meeting on the cancellation of the event, which had been planned to be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Oct. 7-11.

The JSA had been told by local sponsors some days ago that it would be impossible to stage the tour on account of the world financial crisis resulting in the strong Japanese currency.
