GOTEMBA, Shizuoka Pref. (Kyodo) Shingo Katayama birdied the first extra hole to beat overnight leader Yasuharu Imano and win the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters on Sunday.

Katayama, who began the final round two strokes off the pace, birdied the final hole of regulation play to force a playoff and then made a three-foot winning putt on the same par-5 18th after Imano settled for par both times at Taiheiyo Club's Gotemba Course.
