BEIJING (Kyodo) Shooter Yukie Nakayama missed out on a medal in the women's trap on Monday, finishing fourth following a four-way shoot-off for the bronze at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Nakayama, who placed sixth in the qualifying round to squeak into the six-shooter field of the final, came back to share third place on 86 points with American Corey Cogdell, Daina Gudzineviciute of Lithuania and Elena Struchaeva of Kazakhstan after the regulation 25 shots.

Cogdell was the only shooter to hit the target in the shoot-off, securing bronze, while Nakayama's success in the next shoot-off put the 29-year-old in fourth place — the best finish by a Japanese woman in Olympic trap shooting.

Finland's Satu Makela-Nummela won the gold on 91 points and Zuzana Stefecekova of Slovakia the silver on 89.
