Japan plans to call up VfL Bochum midfielder Shinji Ono for its friendly against Uruguay on Aug. 20, Japan Football Association technical director Takeshi Ono said Monday.

If Ono plays, it will be his first national team appearance since the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.

Japan is also trying to use Saint-Etienne midfielder Daisuke Matsui and VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe for the friendly international at Sapporo Dome, the JFA director said.

Japan, however, has decided not to add Celtic's Shunsuke Nakamura to the squad after he had a groin operation last week.
