Norio Sasaki is set to be promoted to head coach of the Japan women's national team, it was learned Wednesday. Sasaki will take over the helm from Hiroshi Ohashi, who stepped down at the end of his term just over a week ago, saying he had fulfilled his mission of winning Japan a berth in the Olympics and the Women's World Cup. Sasaki's appointment will be rubber-stamped at a Japan Football Association Executive Committee meeting on Friday. Ohashi was appointed national team coach after the 2004 Athens Olympics.
