Yamamoto fails in Olympic bid

Veteran Japanese archer Hiroshi Yamamoto missed the last chance to make his sixth Olympic appearance when he was outperformed by countryman Ryota Amano on Sunday in the preliminary round of the final Asian zone qualifier for next year’s Beijing Games. Amano clinched the only berth given to Japan in the qualifier, scoring 659 points, three points clear of the 44-year-old Yamamoto, winner of the individual bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the silver in Athens 20 years later.
