OITA (Kyodo) Japan Under-20 midfielder Tsukasa Umesaki is to return to Oita Trinita after being deemed surplus to requirements at French second-division club Grenoble, Oita official Yasushi Hara said Tuesday.

Umesaki, 20, had been keen to continue playing abroad after being told by Grenoble that it would not be offering him a contract extension when his current loan deal ends next month.

However, Umesaki returns to the J. League after failing to receive any offers from overseas clubs.

Umesaki, who made his debut for the senior national team in last September’s 1-0 win away to Yemen in Asian Cup qualifying, joined Grenoble in January.
