Yuka Kamino took a major stride toward a fifth straight overall title with victory in the women's 1,500 and 500 meters at the Short Track Speed Skating National Championships on Saturday.

Kamino set a meet record in winning the 1,500 in 2 minutes, 25.415 seconds and then powered her way to victory in the 500 in 46.096 at Kyoto Aquarena. Satoru Terao also edged closer to claiming his third national crown in succession by winning the 1,500 and 500 in the men's event with times of 2:20.762 and 42.181.

The two-day meet doubles up as a qualifier for the Short Track World Championships in Milan next month. Selection to the Japan team will be based on total points accumulated at this meet and the single-distance nationals held earlier this month.
