Lebanon is pulling out of the Asian Cup 2007 qualifiers because of the Israeli military offensive against the country, the Asian Football Confederation said Tuesday.

The Lebanon Football Association on Monday sent a letter to the Kuala Lumpur-headquartered AFC explaining the withdrawal.

According to a copy of the letter posted on the AFC's Web site, Rahif Alameh, general secretary of the LFA, said the withdrawal is due to "the tragic circumstances our country and people are passing through as a result of the barbaric attack imposed on Lebanon by the Israeli army.
