Tokyo metropolitan police officer Satoru Harada beat his colleague Ryoichi Uchimura in overtime Thursday to win his first title at the national kendo championship.

Two-time runner-up Harada hit Uchimura in the forearm for the decisive "kote" blow to claim the title in his ninth appearance in the championship at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan.

Defending champion Tsuyoshi Suzuki lost in the first round.
