Shuichi Murata pulled Yokohama within two runs with a two-run blast off Satoru Ishikawa in the bottom of the ninth, but Hitoki Iwase got the final two outs for his league-high 30th save.

Swallows 4, Giants 0

At Tokyo’s Jingu Stadium, Ryo Kawashima pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 in eight shutout innings as Yakult blanked Yomiuri.

Backed by solo homers by Shinya Miyamoto and Adam Riggs in the first two innings, Kawashima (7-8) held the Giants to two singles and two walks in a duel with Kimiyasu Kudo (8-7).

Atsuya Furuta capped the scoring with a two-run single in the eighth.

Hawks 8, Eagles 5

In Sendai, Naoyuki Omura drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run single in the seventh inning as Softbank won its third straight with a victory over Tohoku Rakuten.

Omura turned a one-run deficit into a 5-4 lead with his second hit of the night, before back-to-back RBI singles by backup catcher Masanori Taguchi and Yusuke Torigoe increased the cushion in the eighth at Fullcast Stadium.

Fumitoshi Takano doubled home two runs in a three-run fourth and Takeshi Yamasaki hit a tiebreaking single in the fifth for the Eagles, who blew leads of 3-1 and 4-3 en route to their fourth loss in a row.

Rakuten reliever Toyohiko Yoshida (2-2) took the loss.

Marines 3, Buffaloes 2

At Chiba Marine Stadium, Koichi Hori went 2-for-3 with a single that led to a costly throwing error by Orix center fielder Yoshitomo Tani as Chiba Lotte extended its winning streak to five games.

With the game tied at 2-2, Tani threw widely to third base on Hori’s hit, allowing Tsuyoshi Nishioka to score the go-ahead run from first base. Hori earlier singled home a run in a two-run third.

Koji Takagi (1-0) pitched four innings of shutout relief for the win and Masahide Kobayashi earned his 22nd save.
