Winless tour veteran Daisuke Maruyama fired a 7-under-par 64 Thursday to take the provisional lead after the first round of the Aiful Cup was suspended due to darkness.

Play was interrupted after lightning struck and 15 golfers failed to complete their rounds as darkness descended at Daisen Ark Country Club. The remainder of the first round and round two will be played on Friday.

Maruyama, who is in his 12th year on the Japanese pro tour, made eight birdies against one bogey to move atop the leaderboard, one shot clear of Tadahisa Inoue in second.

Jun Kikuchi and Yasuharu Imano were two shots back after rounds of 66 in a share of third.
