Japan's Joji Kato made a podium finish in third place in the men's 500 meters while compatriot Sayuri Osuga came third in the women's event at a World Cup speedskating meet on Friday.
Kato clocked a time of 35.27 seconds to finish behind Dmitry Lobkov of Russia and Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon, who timed 35.11 and 35.13 for first and second. Kato is second in the overall World Cup standings after Wotherspoon.
