Surgery for Beverlin
Yakult Swallows right-hander Jason Beverlin will undergo elbow surgery and is expected to leave the Central League team after the season, Yakult officials said Saturday.
Beverlin, who has been sidelined since being diagnosed with damaged ligaments in his right elbow last month, will likely return to the United States next week for reconstruction surgery.
Beverlin, who has a team-high nine wins against 11 losses with a 4.42 ERA, was removed from the active roster after hurting the elbow in a game against the Hanshin Tigers on Aug. 23.
He injured the same elbow in August last year and it appears that he requires more than a year to return to the mound.
