Majority in favor of two-league system

Around 74 percent of people in Japan are in favor of maintaining the current two six-team leagues in professional Japanese baseball, according to a Kyodo News survey released Saturday.

The survey results show that the overwhelming majority is in favor of keeping the Central and Pacific Leagues separate with only 12 percent of people in the country in support of a proposed shift to a one-league system.

The nationwide telephone survey conducted Friday and Saturday showed that support for the two-league format was 74.6 percent with more than 80 percent of people in their 20s and 60s in favor of keeping the current system in place.
