Daiki Ito leaped the day's longest 108.5 meters and Noriaki Kasai performed two solid jumps Sunday to help Japan finish second behind Austria in the Grand Prix summer ski jumping competition in Germany.

Kasai, who placed third in Saturday's individual meet also held in Hinterzarten, jumped 103 and 105.5 meters in the normal hill team event for a total of 1051 points together with Ito, Kazuyoshi Funaki and Hideharu Miyahira.

The Austrian squad of Andreas Widhoelzl, Reinhard Schwarzenberger, Martin Hoellwarth and Thomas Morgenstern all performed jumps of at least 102 meters in both rounds to win the event with 1073 points. Poland took third.
