Tomohiro Kondo established a two-shot lead over New Zealand’s David Smail and Kiyoshi Miyazato for the lead after shooting a 5-under-par 66 in the first round of the Japan Golf Tour Championship Shishido Hills Cup on Thursday.

The winless 27-year-old made seven birdies and a pair of bogeys on the tricky par-71 layout at Shishido Hills Country Club to move atop the leaderboard on a day that saw only 13 players in the field of 132 go under par.
