Japanese sprinter Shingo Suetsugu claimed a runnerup finish Tuesday in the men's 100 meters at an IAAF Grand Prix meet in Croatia.

Athens Olympics medal hopeful Suetsugu, who placed a disappointing fourth Sunday in his overseas Grand Prix debut in England, clocked 10.29 seconds to finish behind Abdul Aziz Zakari of Ghana, who crossed the line in 10.18.

Britain's Darren Campbell was third in 10.31. Suetsugu made a strong start and despite being overtaken by Zakari at the midway point said he was pleased to have improved on his 10.37 time in the British Grand Prix.

"I was completely outpaced last time (on Sunday) but I think I competed more aggressively for a longer distance today," said Suetsugu.
