New York Mets shortstop Kazuo Matsui failed to appear in Thursday's home game against the Cincinnati Reds, ending his streak of consecutive games played since his days with the Seibu Lions at 1,213.

It was the third time this season Matsui was left out of the starting lineup, but the first time he did not play in a game.

Matsui played 1,143 consecutive games as a Seibu Lion and 70 as a Met through Wednesday.

Despite having two hits in Wednesday's game, Matsui is a dismal 2-for-22 in his last five games.

Mike Cameron lost Ken Griffey Jr.'s bases-loaded fly ball to center field in the sun, allowing three runs to score in a five-run seventh inning as the Reds rallied to 6-2 victory over the Mets.
