Japan’s Ai Sugiyama and South African partner Liezel Huber were dumped out of the French Open on Wednesday after a shock defeat to Japanese pair Shinobu Asasgoe and Rika Fujiwara in the women’s doubles first round.

Third seeds Sugiyama, who won the doubles here last year with Belgian partner Kim Clijsters, and Huber came from behind to take the second set but it was unseeded Asasgoe and Fujiwara who kept their cool to prevail 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to book their place in the second round.
