Sydney Olympic gold medalist Ryoko Tamura and Orix BlueWave outfielder Yoshitomo Tani filed for their marriage license on Monday at the Nishinomiya City Office.

"After I wrote my name down in the column for wife, I finally felt like I was married," said Tamura. Tani said he was looking forward to building a home with his new bride.

"We are ready to construct a new life together," said the 30-year-old Tani.

The couple will hold a wedding ceremony with only family members in attendance in Paris on Dec. 11, and will honeymoon in Italy and other spots in Europe.

After returning to Japan, they will have a large wedding reception in Tokyo on Dec. 20.

Tamura, 28, who will henceforth be known as Ryoko Tani, will miss the 2003 Fukuoka Women's Judo Championships being held on Dec. 13-14.
