SAPPORO – Two-time Olympic medalist Hiroyasu Shimizu won his second gold medal of the meet with a victory in the men’s 1,000 meters while Shihomi Shinya won the women’s event to also capture her second crown on the final day of the Makomanai invitational speedskating competition Sunday.
Shimizu, who won the 500 Saturday, raced around the Makomanai open stadium outdoor rink in Sapporo in 1 minute, 14.15 seconds to finish ahead of Masaaki Kobayashi (1:14.45).
Shinya clocked 1:21.87 to beat Aki Tonoike, who was second (1:22.77).
