Ai Sugiyama has decided not to compete at the 2004 Athens Olympics to avoid a scheduling conflict, tennis officials said Tuesday.
Sugiyama, who played in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics, opted for the WTA tournaments over the Summer Games in Athens next August after considering how difficult it would be to bring herself to top form for both events.
