Two-time world bronze medalist Takeshi Honda had to settle for fourth in the men's singles freestyle competition while Fumie Suguri also got off to a rocky start, finishing fifth in the women's discipline at the season-opening Campbell's International Figure Skating Classic on Friday.

Russian Evgeny Plushenko, last year's world champion, won the event in the men's competition at Madison Square Garden while Sasha Cohen outperformed fellow American and five-time world champion Michelle Kwan for top honors in the women's freeskate. The competition featured the top figure skaters from around the world, including men's Olympic gold medalist Alexei Yagudin of Russia. Honda and Suguri have won bronze for the past two years at the worlds.
